Most of us have likely been told to kiss the face of Rescue Anne at some point in our lives, for those that have not come face to face with Anne – she is a doll used for CPR in physical first aid training. And in our industry, health and safety has always been very important.
Now is the time for people to upskill in terms of their mental health first aid. Ronseal style, it does what it says on the tin – first aid for your mental health. That health that all of us have but less people talk about. And as we continue to feel the impact of COVID-19 in our industry, we will continue to have repercussions from for a long time to come on our mental health. Stress Matters are accredited by Mental Health First Aid England to deliver their courses across the UK and importantly at the moment, on-line and we are pushing for this support to be offered to all teams and all visitors at events. #MHFAEveryEvent
In an MHFA course, you learn the signs and symptoms of mental health illnesses, how to offer first aid and the steps involved in that, whether that person is in a crisis situation such as panic attack or suicidal, or someone you’re simply just a bit worried about. It’s also a great way to learn new techniques as to how to look after your own wellbeing.
We are seeing a large increase in numbers of individuals booking onto our public courses for their own personal interest. We are so impressed by this; people taking the initiative to see what they can learn (often whilst having a bit more time whilst on furlough) and wanting to help people in their communities. However, we really want to make sure that businesses, large and small, open and not open, take the mental health and wellbeing of their team seriously and think strategically about how they are going to support people as they move back into work.
If your business hasn’t yet got a plan as to how to approach the wellbeing and mental health side of people returning to work, then get in contact and we can talk you through the options.
If you’d like to book a dedicated course for your team or onto one of our public courses, please contact andreas@stressmatters.org.uk. We also have courses running in July and August so contact us for alternative dates.
